A flash flood caused by heavy rainfall, at the weekend claimed the life of a 31-year-old motor cyclist, Yakubu Lucky, in Lokogoma District of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It was gathered that late Yakubu, drowned after he drove into the pool of water at Dogongada area Lokogoma.
A statement from Head, Public Affairs FCT Emergency Management Agency ,(FEMA), Nkechi Isa, disclosed that the deceased, who alleged defied warnings from the local divers stationed at Dogongada, had also navigated through the barricade placed by Agency.
It added that FEMA’s Search and Rescue team, recovered and deposited body of the deceased at the Asokoro district Hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
However, the statement stated that the family of the deceased, who hailed from Zango Kataf ,Kaduna State, later took his body home for burial.
Reacting to the incident, the Ag. Director General of FEMA, Mr Mohammed Ibrahim Sabo who commiserated with the family of the deceased, appealed to FCT residents to always heed to the warnings issued by the Agency.
Sabo urged residents not to drive into a pool of water, but should wait for it to recede or seek an alternative route.
He also called on residents to always use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of a disaster or emergency.
