The immediate past Minister of Health, Professor C. O Onyebuchi Chukwu has re-affirmed his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he remains a member of the party.
Onyebuchi stated this in a press release made available to journalists yesterday.
The former minister, who resigned his appointment to contest the governorship seat in Ebonyi State but lost out in the primaries, said it has become necessary to make the clarification in view of the general confusion in his state in the aftermath of the party’s primary election.
While lamenting that the party has yet to respond to his petition over the turnout of the primaries, having sought for a redress from the national secretariat of the party, Onyebuchi said though that he is still hopeful the party will grant him fair hearing.
Parts of the statement read: “I wish to make it clear that I am still a member of the PDP. I am aware that in the pervading confusion surrounding the political developments in Ebonyi State, my supporters have been longing for a statement from me. I have kept silent all this while because I was pursuing and hoping for quick justice through the internal mechanism of my party. However, I do acknowledge that it will be improper to keep them waiting indefinitely.
“I thank all my supporters, most of whom have stood by me till this moment for their unprecedented show of support, solidarity and love. I appreciate the resources including money, material and time that have been expended by many of them. I feel the pain of their disappointment. However, I wish to assure them that I have not given up the struggle for justice to be done which I wish to take to a logical conclusion but through legitimate means. For the upcoming elections, I ask that while they may not enhance the political fortunes of our detractors, they should vote right. Indeed, the impending elections present moments of risks. If we make the wrong choices, God forbid, we may lay our dear state open to a reversal of our good fortunes, incestuous rape of our resources and unbridled brigandage”.
