Movie in the Park has unveiled plans to host a special career day edition on May 1, in celebration of workers across the country.
The event organiser, Ihechi Opara, said the edition, powered by Campari, is designed to provide a relaxed atmosphere for workers to unwind and be appreciated for their contributions to national development.
Opara noted that the initiative recognises the sacrifices and dedication of Nigerian workers, stressing the need for moments of rest and enjoyment.
“This edition, as the name ‘career’ implies, is a day to celebrate workers in the country. I see it as a means to appreciate their efforts, sacrifices and dedication,” he said.
“Hence, there is a need for them to relax, enjoy the atmosphere and chill while they stay off work.”
The announcement follows the successful Valentine’s Day edition of the event held on February 14 at Muri Okunola Park, Lagos, which attracted over 3,000 guests.
The highlight of the event was the screening of Once Upon a Honeymoon by Diane Russet — its first showing in Nigeria since release — setting the tone for an evening centred on love and shared experiences.
Attendees also enjoyed giveaways and brand activations, with Durex awarding N1m each to three couples, while Pepsi rewarded the best-dressed guest with N200,000. Malta Guinness also presented N250,000 each to five guests.
Guests were further treated to refreshments from brands including Munch It, Hano Foods and Reelfruit, while Gordon’s RTD provided drinks during the after-party.
Music performances by Tariq, Soundz and other artistes added to the excitement, keeping guests entertained into the night.
Reflecting on the Valentine’s edition, Opara described it as fulfilling and impactful.
“I was incredibly happy to host an edition that truly celebrated love — not just romantic love, but friendship, companionship and community,” he said.
He added that the Lagos outing sets the tone for similar experiences nationwide.
“This Lagos edition sets the tone for what we envision across the country — safe, exciting spaces where young people and families can experience cinema in a fresh way.”
Some attendees also shared their excitement.
“This was honestly the best Valentine’s Day I’ve had. From the movie to the giveaways and the live performances, everything felt intentional,” Amaka Johnson said.
Tobi Akinyemi added, “The energy was amazing. Winning wasn’t even the highlight — just being part of something this big was special.”
With the Lagos event concluded, the organisers said the next stop of the national tour would be Enugu as the initiative expands its open-air cinema experience across the country.
