Brigadier General Buba Marwa has said that he would defeat other gubernatorial aspirants in in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary for the October 11, 2014 governorship bye election provided it will be free and fair.
Marwa, who is a gubernatorial aspirant under the banner of PDP, said this yesterday in Yola. He said he was not threatened by the entrance of the state Acting governor, Ahmadu Fintiri and the former EFCC chairman, Nuhu Ribadu into the race.
He declared his readiness to abide by the rules and work for whoever emerges the candidate provided the primary is free and fair.
Marwa said that the National leadership of PDP has assured all the aspirants of free and fair primaries
“There is no anointed candidate from presidency or National leadership of PDP. I wish to say this categorically that I myself have sat face to face with President Goodluck Jonathan when I went to notify him of my intention. Mr President made it very clear that he did not believe in imposition and he does not believe in the anointment of candidate but believes in democracy rule of law the electoral process”
“ Mr president told me himself that the PDP wants the most popular, most acceptable candidate to emerge. So it is up to all aspirants to compose themselves, sell themselves to the electorates provides the programmes they have for the people”
He explained that he had the needed experience to take the state to the next level of development. “I am one candidate that has been governor not once but twice and certainly the impeccable records that I left behind in both administrations in old Borno state, which is present Borno and Yobe states, and Lagos made me one governor that has administered 3 states among the aspirants. Those records made me in good slate and the people of Adamawa are saying ‘please can you replicate what you did previously in other administrations?’
Commenting on the issue of waiver, Marwa said it had been overtaken by events. According to him, some people who defected back to PDP were allowed to contest executive positions after staying for only two months in the party.
