As the UN agency mandated for the protection and promotion of children’s rights, the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) promised to do all its best to reduce the number of unimmunized children in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states.
This was announced by Chief, UNICEF Kano field office, Mr. Rahama R.M Farah while delivering his Goodwill message during a two day Media Dialogue on Routine Immunization and Zero dose campaign in UNICEF Kano field office.
He explained that, the National Immunization Coverage Survey Results have shown that over the years, Nigeria has made progress in immunization coverage,
“For instance, in the three states of the Northwest of Nigeria: Kano, Katsina and Jigawa, there are over 600,000 children who have not been vaccinated against childhood killer diseases. This is close to about 40% of the total unimmunized children in Nigeria.
“Over 300,000 of those children are in Kano State, representing 50 per cent of the three states under the UNICEF Kano Office.”
