Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, yesterday urged the newly appointed Controller General of the Nigeria Prison’s Service (NPS), Dr Peter E. Ekpendu, to clamp down on officers who conspired with hoodlums to break out inmates from the prisons.

Moro gave the order yesterday at the headquarters of the ministry in Abuja, while decorating the new CG, and his counterpart from the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Joseph G. Anebi.

He said, “Henceforth, if there is jail break in any prison those in charge will be held responsible. I want you to do your best and weed the prison of such characters who are bend on frustrating our efforts”.

The minister said the country cannot afford to watch legions of criminal being released with the consent of some officers charged with the responsibility of safe guarding the inmates.

“At this time of security challenges which the federal government is fighting hard to contain, it will be disastrous to release another set of dangerous criminals on the society. We all must team up to address the problem”.

Responding, the Prison’s new boss assured the minister that they will not fail in their duties, but will improve the performance of the various services.
