The Jigawa State Internal Revenue Services (JIRS) said, it recorded a remarkable milestone as the state Internally Generated Revenue increased from N1.2 billion in August to N4.2 billion in the month of October, 2024.
The JIRS chairman, Dr Nasir Sabo dropped the hint while speaking to newsmen shortly after meeting with Federal Commissioner on Revenue Mobilization, Hajiya Hauwa Umar Aliyu and 27 local government chairmen.
He explained that, the growth of IGR in the state, was achieved as a result of new policies introduced by his team and adopted by the present administration under the leadership of Malam Umar Namadi.
The executive chairman maintained that, some of the new policies introduced include digitalization of revenue collection process (electronic tax collection) by introducing digital registration of tax collection system which helps in blocking tax payment leackages.
Dr Sabo maintained that, the milestone also achieved due to increase of federal allocation to local governments as according to him, JIRS already has a mutual rapport with 27 local government areas in the state by signing a Memorandum of Understanding on tax collection.
He said, other reasons for the rise of IGR is increase contract awarded by the state government in the month of September, as well as adoption of massive enlightenment campaign on how to pay your tax and how government use it for provision of infrastructural development in the communities.
