Kaduna Assembly stops appointment of Auditor-General

The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed into law, a bill stopping the practice of appointing the Auditor General of Local Government in acting capacity, without clearance from the Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker, Mr Peter Adamu said the amendment affected Section 76 (2) and (3) of the State Local Government System Establishment and Administration Law.

The amendment empowers the Assembly to henceforth endorse any appointment of the auditor general in whatever capacity.

Adamu said Section 76(2) now reads: “Except with the resolution of the Assembly; no person shall act in office of the Auditor General for Local Governments for the period exceeding six month.

“Section 76(3), according to the new law said, the Auditor General of Local Government shall vacate his office when he attains the age of sixty years.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that, MrBiyongNkon, (Kaura Constituency) moved for the passage of the bill, and was seconded by Alhaji Yunusa Garba, (Soba Constituency). (NAN)
