A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmed, has thrown his weight behind Murtala Sule Garo as the most strategic choice for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, amid intensifying permutations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Peoples Daily reports that the endorsement comes as internal discussions within the party continue over the best candidate to strengthen its chances in what is shaping up to be a keenly contested political landscape.
It was gathered that while Engr. Rabiu Suleiman Bichi has been widely acknowledged for his competence and administrative capacity, party insiders say the focus is gradually shifting towards candidates with broader political reach and grassroots structures.
Party stakeholders are of the view that APC must position itself strongly against a perceived coalition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), believed to be backed by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna.
Within this context, Garo is being tipped in some quarters as a viable option, given his established political network and influence across Kano State.
Observers note that his alignment with the APC’s grassroots structure could boost mobilization efforts and enhance the party’s competitiveness in the state.
Political watchers further stress that beyond individual merit, electoral success in Kano will depend largely on the strength of party structures, alliances, and the ability to galvanise widespread support, factors expected to guide the APC’s eventual decision.
