Kano state Government is set to sign an investment Memorandum of Understanding with Moroccan Government and Chamber of Commerce in Renewable Energy and Agricultural value chain, respectively.
This is contained in a statement by Muhammad Nazir Halliru, Director General, Kano State Investment Promotion Agency (Kan-Invest) in Kano, on Friday.
The plan, according to him, came after the Kano state high level delegation to Morocco led by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf discussed investment agreements with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MASEN), Moroccan Agency for Africa ( OCP) and Moroccan Chamber of Commerce.
He said part of the agreement, the MASEN will collaborate with Kano state government by providing technical support to renewable energy transition, sharing their detailed lessons learned from their one of their largest solar power plants in Africa, 500 megawatts located at Ouarzazate.
The DG explained that the agreement also includes identification of investors, the financing model and the technical experience, which will significantly help Kano State upcoming solar power investment, tagged Light-Up Kano Initiative aimed at generating 2,000 megawatts in 5 years.
“They have agreed to provide technical support on renewable energy technologies and efficiency, especially storage of generated power and distribution equipment for industries, etc.
“The Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, one of the leading hub of private sectors in Africa opens for collaboration and co-investments with the Kano state government in the areas of solid minerals and renewable energy transition,” he said.
On the other hand, OCP Africa, one of the world’s largest producer of fertilizer welcomes the partnership with the Kano state government in building new projects targeted at improving agricultural supply, fertilizer blending and supporting small holder farmers on improved technology in farming systems.
He said, others in the delegation from Kano State Government includes the Special Adviser to the Governor on States Affairs, Usman Bala, mai, the Commissioner of Information, Com. Ibrahim Waiya, Commissioner of History and Culture, Aisha L. Saji, Commissioner of Special Duties, Nasiru Sule Garo, Special Adviser Health Services, Ibrahim Musa, Director General Kano State Investment Promotion Agency, Muhammad Nazir Halliru, Director General Media and Publicity, Sunusi Nature Dawakin Tofa, Managing Director Kano Agricultural Supply Company, and representative of Kano State Emirate Council, Sarkin Shanun Kano, Alh. Shehu Muhammad Dankadai, among others.
