Kano LG Poll: Kano Emirate Council warns residents against violence

Kano State Emirate Council has warned the general public to shun any form of violence ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the emirate council in a news conference in his office yesterday, Wamban Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, implored residents to be law abiding during the exercise.

He called on the security agencies, district heads, politicians and other stakeholders to caution youth against engaging in violent acts during the forthcoming elections in the state.

“I hereby call on the security agencies, district heads and politicians to caution the youth against causing violence in our dear state during the forthcoming election. They should caution the youth against inflicting injuries on others, burning public buildings and other forms of violence.”

“This is a great issue that needs us to be cautious against any form of violence. We should live peacefully with one another because no religion preaches violence. Therefore, I wish to tell you that the emirate council is standing firmly to take strict measures for the hitch-free elections.” He added.

He finally called on the general public to conduct special prayers on Friday at mosques, schools and other places of worships.

“Let me use this opportunity to call on the general public to conduct special prayers on Friday at mosques, schools and other places of worships. I also pray for the peaceful local government elections in the state,” he said.

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), has fixed Saturday, 17th May, 2014, to conduct the Local Government Elections across the 44 Local Government Councils of the state.
