Karu residents cheer rehabilitation of link road, others

Date:

Residents of Karu site settlement, in Abuja, the Federal CapitalTerritory (FCT) are excited over the rehabilitation of dilapidated major link road, drainage facilities and other infrastructural projects within the area.

Expressing their excitement and hope, they said that when the ongoing works are completed, it would add more colour to the area, thereby improving their living conditions.

A cross section of the residents, who told Peoples Daily decried that the place have suffered neglect for several years, however commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for the initiative.

According to one, Usman Musa, having good access and link roads is vital to the development of any community, and providing such amenities will no doubt boost the residential suitability of Karu site.

“The ongoing infrastructural projects in the area are well over due, and if completed will be a remarkable legacy for this present FCT administration.

“Karu site was initially designed for lower civil servant cadre and other low income earners, but today it has grown into a mini metropolitan city within the big Abuja city, which accommodates thousands of residents,” he added.

Another resident, Mr. Chris Olukolade, also commended the Satellite Towns Development Department the FCTA, for heeding to the plea of the residents, by taken the steps to change the face of roads in the area.

According to him, a mistake was made during the early design of the area, as the link roads have no drainage system shouldering them, resulting in the roads been washed away.

On her part, a shop owner in the area, Mrs. Nwanne Chidi, said the state of the roads before was embarrassing, but the ongoing rehabilitation project, will open the area more for her business and other commercial activities.
