Katsina govt purchase N35 million drugs for CSM, other diseases

Katsina State Government has disclosed that it has purchased vaccines worth N35 million for immunization to fight against Carebro Spinal Meningitis, (CSM) outbreak and other vaccines preventable diseases bedevilling children.
The deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Mannir Yakuba disclosed this yesterday at the opening ceremony of a policy dialogue and strengthening of political commitment, responsibility, and inclusiveness for planning and resource mobilization for child health through immunization including polio.
The deputy represented by the commissioner of education, Professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi noted that the government had spent substantial amount of money for the rehabilitation and upgrading of general hospitals and other health institution across the state.
According to him, the government has finalized arrangements for the upgrade of Orthopaedic hospital to a teaching hospital in preparation for the take up of the faculty of medicine of Umaru Musa ‘Yar’adua University for training of medical personnel and improved healthcare delivery in the state.
Yakubu has further stated that the state through the collaborative effort with donor agencies, development partners and other stake holders had made the state polio free for the last six years.
In a remark, the deputy speaker of Katsina state house of assembly, Engineer Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki has pledged that the assembly would enact laws that would help in improving the health care need of the society.
Also speaking, Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Development Partners and Donor Agencies, Fatima Y. Usman Katsina reiterated the commitment of Masari’s administration in improving the health care needs of women and children in state.
She urged participants at the workshop to pay attention to the submission of the resource person as a way of learning new methods of health advocacy.
