
Katsina Imaging and Cancer Hospital Construction Progressing
The Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged more support for the ongoing construction of a state-of-the-art Imaging and Cancer Hospital in Katsina, the state capital.
The governor made the pledge when he met with a technical team from the company building the hospital on Thursday in Katsina.
The hospital, which will be fully equipped with the latest Siemens technology for radiology, oncology, cardiology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynaecology, Hepatology, and more, is being constructed by Submed Nigeria Limited.
The project is a major milestone in the state’s healthcare agenda and expected to position Katsina State as a hub for advanced healthcare, cancer treatment, and diagnostics in Nigeria and beyond.
The project was initiated following the governor visit to Siemens Healthineers facilities in Germany on 31 May 2025.
During the visit, he engaged experts and inspected advanced medical technologies, including MRI and CT scanners, digital radiography systems, and automated laboratory equipment.
The governor told the technical team that the project was a strategic investment that would strengthen diagnostics and cancer treatment in the state.
He reiterated that his administration’s focus on quality education, healthcare, and social welfare,
“It is unacceptable that people die from preventable causes simply because they can not afford basic healthcare services. This initiative is part of our effort to change that reality,” he said.
Governor Radda explained that the project is part of broader reforms covering primary healthcare strengthening, secondary facility upgrades, and expanded tertiary services to reduce referrals and improve outcomes.
He added that the introduction of world-class medical technologies reflects the state’s commitment to modern, innovative healthcare delivery.
Radda pledged continuous training of healthcare workers, both locally and abroad, to effectively operate and sustain the centre.
The governor directed relevant government agencies to ensure proper maintenance and efficient use of the facility, describing it as a long-term investment for the people of Katsina State.
Earlier, in her presentation, the Director of Operations at Submed, Mojisola Delumo, said the centre will help bridge Nigeria’s diagnostic gap, reduce medical tourism, and position Katsina as a regional referral hub.
Ekta Jhala, Senior Director and Head of Marketing, said the facility will place Katsina at the forefront of precision radiotherapy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
She added that the hospital will have an integrated system that connects screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care.
“This is not just about machines, but about a complete healthcare system that ensures timely and effective treatment,” Ansu Dukuray Head of Eastern and West Africa of the outfit said.
The Commissioner for Health, Hon Musa Adamu, described the project as historic and a reflection of the governor’s commitment to healthcare transformation and innovation.
He said that the partnership with global medical companies signals a new era of healthcare excellence in the state.
Also speaking, the state director, Medical Services, Dr. Bala Habibu said the hospital represents a long-awaited breakthrough for medical professionals in Nigeria.
“We were trained on technologies we had never seen. Today, they are here in Katsina, improving diagnosis, practice, and research opportunities,” he said, adding that improved access to diagnostic tools will enable early detection of diseases, thereby saving lives.
