Kebbi Information Commissioner Rallies Media Team to Counter Opposition ‘Fake News’ Plot

The Commissioner for Information and Culture in Kebbi State, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, has begun a statewide mobilization of the state government media teams to counter fake narratives by the opposition and promote the achievements of Governor Nasir Idris.

The Commissioner, who held an interactive session with 23 Special Advisers from Zuru Emirate,  charged the media aides to prepare for the misinformation from the opposition as electioneering activities begin.

He said that opposition have started dishing out falsehoods to discredit the administration and gain political advantage, as such all the governor’s media aides must remain vigilant, professional and consistent in not just responding with facts, but also sustaining enlightened campaigns on the government’s achievements.

Yakubu said desperate opposition political elements have been engaging in scaremongering through deliberate misinformation and barefaced lies, which the media team must counter with facts to put them to shame.

The commissioner praised the advisers for their commitment and performance over the past three years, but said as the 2027 election approaches, they must redouble their efforts in decimating the falsehood coming from the the opposition parties.

He said they should remain fair, firm and fearless in showcasing the administration’s developmental strides across Kebbi State.

Yakubu also said the responsibility of the media team was not only to publicize government policies but also to ensure that accurate information reach the public to counter misleading narratives.

The meeting in Zuru was the first of the advocacy tour, with similar engagements scheduled for  Argungu, Yauri and Gwandu Emirates.

It is part of efforts to strengthen the state’s media communication network ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The commissioner was accompanied on the advocacy engagement by Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki; Special Adviser on Communications Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru; Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Alhaji Ibrahim A. Jombali, Special Adviser on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado, and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.

The advocacy delegation included the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Yahaya Sarki; Special Adviser on Communications Strategy, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris Zuru; Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Alhaji Ibrahim A. Jombali; Special Adviser on New Media, Alhaji Aliyu Bandado; and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Idris.
