
*As Kidnappers Demand Ransom From Family members

The Benue State government has said it has been able, through the aid of the Police and vigilante in Kogi State, to secure the lives of 18 passengers, two (2) drivers and the two buses of Benue Links reportedly kidnapped in Kogi state.
Recall that on Sunday, ten passengers traveling with the State transport outfit,Benue Link enroute to Lagos State, were kidnapped close to Okene, Kogi state.
The Benue State Commissioner for Energy, Power and Transport Barr. Omale Omale confirmed in a telephone chat that ten passengers are been held hostage by the kidnappers who have started demanding for ransoms, adding that no life was lost in the incident
“We have confirmed that two of Benue Link buses on their way to Lagos with passengers were intercepted by suspected kidnappers on the 10th September, 2023 and incidentally as we speak, no life was lost.
“The incident happened before Okene in Kogi state. With the help of Police and vigilante, we were able to secure the two buses, the two drivers and 18 passengers. The Police have certified them psychological fit and the drivers with the passengers proceeded to Lagos.
“We also, confirmed that the buses arrived safely except for the 10, 4 from one bus and 6 in the other who are still in the kidnapper’s den. We have reached out to the State Police Command to liaise with the Kogi State Police command to intensify security and make a release. The kidnappers have made contact with families of the victims and are making several demands for ransom but we have the assurance of government that the people will be retrieved from the kidnapper’s den and will reunite with their family members.
“We are assuring our customers that their safety is guaranteed as they travel with our vehicles and other transport agencies in Benue State. The security challenges is endemic and cuts across everywhere. The State government will liaise with others states where we are enroute to ensure safety of passengers. We are committed to this”, Barr. Omale assured.
