The Salka Elites Forum of Nigeria, Niger State chapter has appealed to the Governor of the State, Umar Muhammad Bago to call the Emir of Kontagora (Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora), to order, following alleged controversial appointments that resulted in burning of residential houses and business premises with many injured including a policeman in the area.
Also, the Forum urged the Governor to cancel all the purported unilateral creation of new District and controversial appointment of a settler as the Village Head of Tungan Kade- Majinga, a Kambari Community in Magama Local Government Area of the State, in order to save the Kambari tradition, norms and values.
In a press statement signed by Bala Salka, one of the elders of the group, and made available to newsmen at the end of a one day retreat held in Minna, the group alleged that the unfortunate act by the Emir of Kontagora who is supposed to be the custodian of peace and cultural heritage of the people led to breakdown of law and order in the area.
Also, the Forum said the Monarch should respect the traditions of the different tribal groups under his domain, and also consult with them before taking any decisions that affect them.
“The turbaning of Hausa Fulani as village Head of Tungan Kade by the Emir has resulted in burning of residential houses, business premises and many injured including a policeman in the area.
“This singular act by the Emir negates the relevant laws governing traditional institutions in the State, and the Emir should be held responsible for the unfortunate incidence as well as the break down of law and order.
“Similarly, the group has kicked against the unilateral creation of a new District and appointment of the District Head.
