Kano state governor, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has expressed happiness over the cordial relationship existing between Nigeria and United States of America (USA) and especially Kano state.
He stated this when the state government organized Ramadan breaking of fast for Kano based diplomats, Emirate Council members with the American Ambassador in attendance, held at the Africa House, Kano Government House on Tuesday evening.
The governor pointed out that the Ambassador has made Kano state his second home after Abuja, saying that “on behalf of people and government of the state thank you for honoring our invitation.”
Responding, United States of American Ambassador to Nigeria, James F. Enwhistle said that “I am honored for including me in an event of such significance.”
Entwhistle said that Nigerian both Muslims and Christians are peace lovers, adding that they are also ready to see the end of social conflicts bedeviling the society in order to move the country forward.
In his remarks, former Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, Danmasanin Kano, traced the historical relationship between the United States and the people of Kano to World War II. He explained that it was the period when American troops were stationed at Brigade, in Kano city.
Dan Masanin Kano recalled with nostalgia that many Americans use to visit the old city and interact with people freely, revealing further that, from then on, many people in Kano and the Americans became friends up to now. He hoped the relationship would be maintained for the benefit of the two countries.
