The camp of Sola Ajimati, an aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Kwara South Senatorial primary election, has alleged attempts to manipulate and fabricate results in favour of a particular aspirant.

In a statement on Tuesday, signed by Ajimati’s Legal Adviser, Deji Lawal, the group accused unnamed individuals of trying to distort the democratic process against the “genuine will and mandate” expressed by party members across Kwara South.

The statement emphasized that the results of the primary election ought to have been officially released, warning that any deliberate delay or coordinated effort to alter the outcome would further expose what it described as irregularities already reported in several wards and local government areas.

“We are fully aware of desperate attempts to manipulate, concoct, and fabricate results in favour of a particular aspirant against the genuine will and mandate freely expressed by the people of Kwara South, and we state unequivocally that such criminal distortion of democracy will never be accepted,” the statement read.

The camp called on APC leaders, stakeholders and officials involved in the collation and declaration process to demonstrate responsibility, fairness and integrity in handling the exercise.

According to the statement, the unity and stability of the party in Kwara South should not be sacrificed for the interests of “political merchants, money mongers, and those seeking to impose candidates through manipulation, intimidation, and artificial allocation of votes”.

The camp further insisted that democracy must reflect the true choice of party members at the grassroots rather than the wishes of influential individuals allegedly attempting to hijack the process through backdoor arrangements.

While noting that supporters across the seven local government areas remained peaceful and law-abiding, the statement warned that actions taken during the collation process could have serious political consequences capable of affecting trust and confidence in the APC within the senatorial district.

The camp therefore demanded immediate transparency, fairness and the prompt release of credible results that genuinely reflect the will of the people.
