Kwara students laud Gov Ahmed on fees reduction

The National Association of Kwara State Students (NAKSS) has commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over the reduction of school fees of Kwara state University (KWASU) from N150, 000 to N95, 000.

The national president of the association, Comrade Ajadi Bolakale Muhideen, who stated this while addressing journalists in a press conference, yesterday in Ilorin, charged Governor Ahmed to further reduce the institution’s school fees.

Muhideen, whose speech was delivered by the association’s spokesman, Oyeniyi Obafemi said “Your government’s huge investment in education sector has been noticed; particularly the drastic reduction in KWASU’s tuition fees; cancellation of departmental level dues; increment in subvention for all the state-owned tertiary institutions in the state.

“In the education sector, ground -breaking education reforms have been scaled-up and infrastructure enhanced and the introduction of free education at primary and secondary school levels.”

The association, which expressed its support for Governor Ahmed’s second term also described his initiative to establish Vocational Centre at Ajase-Ipo for the youth of the state as huge investment for the future generation.

They noted that 13 General Hospitals and 43 Primary Health Centres were equipped and re-modeled stressing that the Community Health Insurance Scheme, with over 80,000 beneficiaries are commendable.

In his reaction, the Special Assistant to Government on Students Affairs, Adewumi Patrick Adekunle assured the association that the state government would do justice to all their demands, including issues of bursary, admission into universities in the state by indigenes, stressing that they should continue with “scientific dialogue”, with government instead of violent approach.
