Lagos is a no-go area for armed robbers-Manko

Date:

From Matthew Aramunde, Lagos

Apparently basking from the continuous success recorded by officers and men under his Command, most especially the men and officers of the dreaded State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in stemming the hitherto worrisome crime rate in Lagos metropolis, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko has once again reiterated the command’s resolve to keep at bay the menace of armed robbers.

He gave the hint to a motley of journalists in his office at the Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos. In his words: “Let me reiterate once more that any armed robber or robbers who make the mistake of coming into Lagos for operation should have a rethink because we shall smoke them out”.

Asked if he is not worried by the development whereby suspects arrested by the Police, investigated and later charged to court are often reported to jump bail, Manko answered in the affirmative, but quickly noted that in such circumstances, there is virtually anything the Police could possibly do because once a matter is charged to court the Police rarely have any power of influence on what the court decides.
