Lassa Fever: 1 dead, 4 infected in Adamawa

As the Lassa fever is reported to be rearing it’s ugly head in the country, Adamawa state has recorded one death case and four suspected cases of the outbreak in the state.
Public Relations Officer of the Federal medical Centre Yola, FMC, Mallam Adamu Muhammad Dodo told Peoples Daily reported on Mobile phone interview in Yola yesterday that a lady in her early twenties, who was admitted in the hospital for maternity case but died in the process.
Dodo said the deceased who couldn’t deliver her new baby complained of acute fever before her demise which informed the consulting Doctors to send her blood sample to a laboratory for test and was confirmed to have died of the complications of Lassa fever.
“Yes it is true that two days ago one of our female patients, who were admitted in the hospital for maternity couldn’t, give birth and died in the process.
“She complained of fever before her demise which made our Doctors to took her blood sample and sent a famous laboratory outside the state where it was confirmed to have died of Lassa fever”, Dodo stated
An independent checks by our reporter revealed that the late victim was a granddaughter to a former Secretary to the Adamawa state government.
However, the State Director public Health, Dr. Bwaki Dilli told the media on Monday in Yola that the said cases are still at diagnosis level of investigation.
“The patients were admitted at the state treatment Centre located at Federal Medical Centre, Yola, their samples had been taken and referred to the laboratory in Abuja, for diagnosis.
“When the final result is out we would inform the general public about the situation,” Dilli said.
He said the state government had taken preventive measures against the disease.
