LG unveils AI-driven cabin technology at CES 2026

LG Electronics has unveiled a next-generation in-vehicle technology powered by generative artificial intelligence, signalling a major shift in how future cars will interact with drivers.

The company introduced its new AI Cabin Platform at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, positioning the innovation as a key step in the transition from software-defined vehicles to what it calls AI-defined vehicles.

LG said the platform is designed to run on high-performance automotive computing systems and is powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit Elite platform, allowing advanced AI functions to operate directly within the vehicle.

At a private showcase during CES, LG demonstrated a digital cockpit experience driven by the AI Cabin Platform, giving guests a glimpse of how future vehicles could analyse driving conditions, understand driver behaviour and respond in real time.

The platform integrates advanced generative AI models, including large language models, vision-language models and image generation tools, into LG’s in-vehicle infotainment system to deliver more intelligent and context-aware driving experiences.

Unlike cloud-dependent systems, LG said all AI processing is done on-device, inside the vehicle. This, the company noted, ensures faster response times, improved system stability and stronger protection of user data by eliminating reliance on external servers.

Using data from both internal and external cameras, the AI Cabin Platform can assess the surrounding environment and the driver’s condition, enabling proactive alerts. For instance, if another vehicle begins to merge and the driver has not noticed, the system can issue a personalised warning to draw attention to the road.

The technology also adapts infotainment displays to driving conditions. LG explained that the system can generate customised visual backgrounds and offer contextual suggestions, such as recommending music that matches weather or time of day.

LG recalled that at CES 2025, it and Qualcomm showcased a joint high-performance computing platform that combined infotainment and advanced driver assistance systems into a single control unit, a move that drew attention for cutting costs while boosting performance.

Speaking on the new unveiling, the President of LG Vehicle Solution Company, Eun Seok-hyun, said the firm would continue to deepen partnerships to shape the future of mobility.

“Based on our proven technology and global trust, we will keep expanding partnerships with innovators like Qualcomm Technologies to drive mobility beyond the software-defined vehicle to the AI-defined vehicle,” he said.

“With the AI Cabin Platform, we are creating vehicles that understand drivers and respond proactively to their needs.”

LG said the new platform reflects its ambition to set new standards in intelligent mobility as the automotive industry increasingly embraces artificial intelligence.
