An estate company, Livebridge Properties and Investment Ltd at the weekend offered medical outreach and feeding to over 1000 displaced people at the new Kuchingoro IDP Camp in Kaura District, Abuja.
Also, the company donated writing and reading materials to the displaced person school for over 280 pupils.
According to the company, the donation and the medical outreach which has been a yearly event to the camp, was part of their corporate social responsibility and to mark the birthday celebration of their MD/CEO, Obinna Nwaneri.
Speaking to journalists at the IDP camp, Nwaneri said they asked the displaced persons their challenges and their immediate needs before arriving at what to donate to them.
“We realized they are facing medical challenges while their children in school don’t have enough writing materials.
So, we have fed about 100 people to provide medical services including provision of drugs.
“We gave the materials to the school. Most of this people don’t have what it takes to meet their basic medical needs because they live in shanties and in thatched houses so they are prone to medical issues.
“For us as an organization, beyond our corporate social responsibility, we think we have to reach out to the displaced persons.
“Some of the items distributed in the school include exercise books, crayons, pencils, coloring materials, exercise books and textbooks.
“You know that schools have just resumed and a lot of the parents don’t have enough to send their children to school. Even the teachers are volunteers.
“Education is one key thing that everyone should not underestimate. These kids are the leaders of tomorrow and we can’t leave them to their fate because no one will sleep tomorrow if they are not well catered for today,” Nwaneri said.
“We brought learning materials to aid their learning. Today as a company, we feed 1000 displaced persons today. For the school, the school managers said they have 280 pupils and that informed the number of materials we brought and each one of them got three of the items each. Over 1000 people also benefited from the medical outreach and food.
“We owe a certain duty to our country as individuals and as organizations. The only way we can contribute to a safe country is to care for the displaced persons because most of the people have been displeased from Borno to Nasarawa and many other places.
“We are calling on the government to ensure that anywhere there is an IDP Camp, let there be a school,” Nwaneri said.
