The Senior Magistrate Court 11, sitting in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, has sentenced a 25 year-old man, Abba Mohammed Usman, a resident of Pawari ward in Damaturu for dangerous driving and driving without due care.
Police prosecutor Zakar Saleh, told the court that on the 6th of September, 2014 at about 1940 hours, the accused person Abba Mohammed Usman, was driving a Golf car with registration number XA 740 GSH along Gashua road and on reaching opposite the office of the Power Holding Company (PHCN), hit down one Saidu Babare, a resident of Nayinawa ward, Damaturu.
The prosecutor told the court that the victim of the accident, who was crossing the road when the accident occurred, was rushed to the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital Damaturu, unconscious, where the doctor certified him dead.
Police prosecutor, Zakari Saleh told the court that the offence committed by the accused person Abba Mohammed Usman contradicts section 28 of the road Traffic Act (RTA)
The presiding judge, Gambo A. Ibrahim, satisfied that prosecution has proved the charge against the accused person beyond reasonable doubt, convicted and sentenced him to pay the sum of N8000.00 or serve six months imprisonment.
