Kado Grade 1 Area court, in Abuja has sentenced one Akumah Daniel, 23, to six months in prison for stealing clothes.
The presiding officer, Malam Abubakar Sadiq, gave the convict no option of fine.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, had earlier told the court that on June 17, Amaka Nwangwu, a dry cleaner, of 24 Crescent, Corner Shop, Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station.
Idi said that on the same date, Daniel, of no fixed address, went to the complainants shop and stole 15 pieces of her customers’ already dry cleaned clothes.
He added that the convict forced the window of the shop opened for easy access to the shop.
The prosecutor said that on May 14, the convict entered the house of one Christian Okoronkwo of the same address and made away with his shoes.
Idi told the court that Daniel, who was arrested while trying to escape with the stolen items all valued at N90, 000, admitted stealing from the complainants shop during interrogation.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal code.
Daniel pleaded guilty to the charge and appealed for mercy. (NAN)
