Man remanded for threat on mother’s life released as mother pleads

A 41 year old man, Alhaji Samaila Audu of Gwange ward Damaturu, Yobe state capital, who was arraigned and subsequently remanded in prison custody for threatening to kill his mother and the entire family, was yesterday released and set free when the mother pleaded for his release before the chief magistrate court 11 in Damaturu.
When the case was opened for hearing, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Bulama Maina, told the judge that the mother has come to court and had something to tell the judge, and, on invitation by the presiding judge, Chief magistrate Hadiza Lawan Musa, the mother pleaded for leniency on behalf of her son on condition that he would promise to repent from his drug addiction and threat on her life and the life of other members of the family, which the accused person accepted promising not to take drug again.
Our state corresponded recalled that when the case was first mentioned in court on the 24th of September, 2017,the accused person pleaded not guilty to the offence of criminal intimidation brought against him, which is punishable under section 397 of the penal code law.
The case was then adjourned at the request of the prosecutor, Sgt. Bulama Maina, for him to produce witnesses to appear and testify in court, while the accused was remanded in prison custody.
Before finally setting the accused person free however, the presiding judge, Chief magistrate Hadiza Lawan Musa, warned him against repeating such an offence or anything similar, as the court would not condone or grant such pardon for him again, and the case was struck out and the accused, discharged.
