Measles immunization: Nasarawa govt. charges media, stakeholders on public sensitization

Media organizations, stakeholders in Nasarawa State have been admonished to disseminate adequate information to the public on the significance of the ongoing Men ‘A” and measles immunization across the 13 Local Government Councils of the state for children ranging from 9 months and under 5 years as well as called for parents of the targeted children to fully participate.
The Director Social mobilization of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, NAPHDA Mohammed Abubakar Ibrahim who gave the admonition in his opening remark during a one day sensitization meeting with the stakeholders comprising media, development partners, religion bodies, market women and traditional institutions at the agency conference hall lafia, as the state embarked on a one week measles immunization exercise.
According to him, “This meeting is very crucial which is aimed at sensitizing parents, guardians on the imperative of the 2019 integrated Men ‘A’ and measles immunization for children of 9 months and under 5 years effect 30th November to 7th December. I call on parents to avail their children for the exercise. Measles is a deadly disease. Children of 9 months and under 5years are mostly at risk.”
He continued, “we deemed it fit that Nasarawa state should be reported to the outside world for the pragmatic Steps taken in tackling measles and other related child diseases annually. We deemed it fit to put Nasarawa state among the front line states in the country. I must commend the agency’s Executive chairman and his Excellency Engineer Abdullahi Sule for taken into cognizance toward ensuring that the exercise is sustained periodically.”
In his speech at the event, the Executive Director of the Agency, Dr. Mohammed Addis who was represented by the Director Public Health of the NAPHDA, Dr. Absalom Madawa, commended the development partners for their timely interventions as well as applauded the stakeholders for their effective roles played annually for the exercise to actualize its desired target
“Measles is a dangerous disease. Make your children available at government health facilities across the state for the exercise.
“We are targeting 95% coverage for the entire state,” he said.
