Minister Launches Katsina State Policy on Safe Schools

The Minister of Education, Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has launched the Katsina State Policy on Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools, a major initiative designed to protect learners and strengthen confidence in the education system.

Alausa, who was also at the commissioning of the Radda Model Smart Secondary School in Katsina, reiterated Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a safe, secure, and violence-free learning environment.

He said his ministry had earlier introduced a national policy on safe schools, designed to ensure that educational institutions across the country remain protected spaces for learning.

According to him, the policy seeks to safeguard students from all forms of insecurity, including violence, disruptions, and threats such as kidnapping.

“The safety of our children is non-negotiable. Schools must remain sanctuaries of learning where pupils and students can pursue their education without fear of kidnapping, violence, or any form of disruption,” Alausa stated.

The minister emphasized that it is the collective responsibility of government and all education stakeholders to ensure that schools remain safe and conducive environments for learning and personal development.

He commended the Katsina State Government for promptly domesticating the national policy, noting that the state has continued to demonstrate strong leadership in education reform and child protection.

Alausa also praised the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda for its forward-thinking vision and sustained investment in education infrastructure and human capital development.

“The Katsina State Government has shown commendable commitment by quickly adopting and implementing this policy. This is the kind of leadership we encourage across all states of the federation,” he added.

The minister applauded the state Commissioner for Education, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, for his active role in driving education reforms and ensuring the effective implementation of both federal and state initiatives.

He noted that the decision to launch the Katsina State Policy on Safety, Security, and Violence-Free Schools during the commissioning of the Radda Model Smart School was deliberate and symbolic.

According to him, it reflects Katsina state’s integrated and forward-looking approach to educational transformation, where infrastructure development, policy reform, and student safety are being pursued simultaneously.
