The Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, would be participating at the forthcoming third Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (NIGF) at Onikan, Lagos.
Mrs Mary Uduma, Chairperson of the Local Advisory Group, said that Mrs Johnson would be attending the forum to give her remarks and officially declare it open on Tuesday, June 10, 2014.
According to her, Dr. Eugene Juwah, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and Mr Peter Jack, Director-General, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) would also be in attendance.
Mrs Uduma assured that LMAG members made up of the Ministry of Communication Technology (MCT), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA), Digital Sense Africa (DSA), Internet Society (ISOC) Nigeria, Rita Talabi Foundation, Creative Technology for Development Initiative (CTDI) and Global Network for Cyber security (GNC), among others, are working assiduously to ensure the NIGF 2014 surmounts the success of last year, hence it was brought to Lagos.
She said the two days event is expected to commence with the hosting of youth workshop on day-1, Monday, June 9, 2014 at the same venue with tagged “Internet Governance for Job Creation & Social Enterprise Development” under the chairmanship of an Internet Security Consultant and Professor Cleopas Angaye, former DG of NITDA, adding that the event would also focus on “Harnessing Multi-Stakeholders Framework for Internet Governance & Economic Growth” with discussions led by 2014 forum chairman, Mr Austin Okere of Computer Warehouse Group Plc on June 10 at MUSON Center.
Strategically, she noted the importance of the forum, such that participants are drawn from all social and economic groups to have a say, through multi-stakeholders’ dialogue, in establishing local principles and protocols that would guide the governance of the Internet in order to facilitate economic growth in Nigeria.
Registration, Mrs Uduma said is ongoing at NIGF website, and urged Nigerians to share the news with their various networks and make sure they participate actively in the NIGF 2014, just as the forum would harness and aggregate productive ideas routed on best practices and experiences so as encourage an all-inclusive framework for internet governance in Nigeria.
