Not less than 173 houses were destroyed by mysterious fire disasters in Bauchi state within one month.

The Bauchi state Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed disclosed this to newsmen yesterday in Bauchi.

According to him, 164 houses were destroyed by mysterious fire in Soro town, in Ganjuwa LGA early this month, while 9 houses were destroyed in Darazo LGA, in the state yesterday.

He said, between November17 and 18, over nine houses were burnt down by mysterious fires at Darazo town in Darazo LGA of Bauchi.

“Also over 164 houses were razed down mysteriously in Soro Town within one month and investigation is in progress.

However, no life lost and value of property destroyed yet to be ascertained and cause of fire still unknown”, he stated.

In another development, DSP Mohammed said the command has arrested 5 suspects in connection to car theft.

He said, “On November 16, 2014, detectives attached to GRA Division arrested one Rilwanu Aliyu, male, of Unguwan Karfi, behind Bakaro, Bauchi, with two iPhones robbed from one Sadiat Isa Kagara, of Niger state, together with her Black Lexus car, model 250, with Reg. no. NAS 637 AA.

“Further investigation by joint Police detectives from Bauchi and Minna led to the arrest of the robbery suspects, who confessed to the offense.

The other suspects, according to Mohammed, are Umar Sani, alias “Manu”, male and 27 years, of Muda Lawan, Ibrahim Isa alias Jikan Shehu, male, 25 years, of Unguwan Dawaki, Abdulkadir Shehu 26 years of Karofin Madaki. And Abdulaziz Ahmed, 25 years, of Sabon Kaura.

“However, in another string operation, one Nasiru Aljan, male, 32 years, of Turum ward, was arrested with 32 bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, while three other suspects were arrested for attempting to kidnap an eleven-year old girl at Turum ward Bauchi.

“All the suspects arrested are assisting the Police with useful information that could lead to the arrest of their accomplice. Investigation is in progress,” DSP Mohammed said.
