The House of the Representatives on Wednesday resolved to set up an Ad-hoc committee to investigate the N60 billion allegedly looted in the Defunct Nigeria Airways Limited as well as identifying those indicted in the white paper with the aim of ensuring that they are prosecuted and made to refund the loot.
The House also mandated the committee to reveal why those indicted in the report have not be prosecuted despite Federal Government directive to the effect.
It’s equally resolved to identify any civil Servant or Political office holder who may have used his/her offices to thwart and to prevent those indicted from prosecution and possible conviction.
The resolution of the House followed a motion sponsored by Hon. James Abiodun Faleke (APC Lagos) on the “Urgent need to review the Justice Obiora Nwazota Commission of Enquiry into the Actives of the Defunct Nigeria Airways Limited”
Hon. Faleke While moving the motion said the commission turned in the report which revealed the mind boggling corruption and looting to the turn of N60 billion, adding that the Federal Government directed the ministry of Finance and the police recover the fund.
“the House is dumbfounded that despite the release of the white paper and the approval given to it as well as the directive to Federal Ministry of Finance and the Police by the Federal Government on an enquiry of the magnitude which may affects the entire nation, the previous government refused to prosecuted the culprits indicted in the report” he said.
According to him, the Federal Ministry of finance and the police acte as the directed in the white paper, noting that the ex-workers have suffered so much pains and deprivations.
“Worried that till date, nothing has been heard of the report and those indicted in the report are believe to be largely visible in public arena while the ex-workers continued to languish in abject poverty having denied their right to their entitlement with many reportedly dead.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari has commenced payment and offsetting of 50 percent of the outstanding entitlement to the ex-workers.
The committee is expected to submit it recommendations and report back to the house within four weeks.
