No fewer than 13,000 local traders have so far benefited from the newly introduced Federal Government programme (Trader Moni) out of total target of 30,000 youth in Jigawa state.
The Jigawa state coordinator of the programme, Hajiya Hauwa Adam dropped the hint yesterday while supervising the ongoing exercise in Dutse the state capital.
She explained that, the programme is part of exciting opportunities for Nigerians created by Federal Government early this year with a target of over 2 million local traders across the 36 states in the country.
According to her, the sum of N10, 000 loans through Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) is given to petty traders to develop their business.
Hajiya Hauwa said, the programme was created and established to alleviate poverty among the teaming populace with a view to support small traders and expand their business trade via the provision of collateral free loans of N10,000.
“Currently the Buhari led administration has launched a new initiative under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), called the Trader Moni , which will empower about two million petty traders between now and the end of the year 2018” she said.
She added that, the initiative, which is mobile phone-based, is aimed to support about 2 million Nigerians with collateral-free loans to boost their businesses and no interest rate added.
Our Correspondent has observed that there were high turnout of the petty traders ranging from Okada riders, small and medium scale merchants across the many registration centres in Fagoji and Dutse New markets well as Yan Tifa and Yoruba Jumat mosques.
