Naja’atu Muhammad

A senior official of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Naja’atu Mohammed, has indicated that Kano governorship aspirant Ibrahim Khalil faces an uphill task in securing the party’s ticket over his perceived support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Addressing journalists in Kano, Mohammed said Khalil’s past and recent public expressions of support for President Tinubu have raised concerns within the party regarding his commitment to the ADC’s political agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
She explained that the party’s seven-member consensus committee, chaired by Ben Obi, would find it difficult to endorse any aspirant whose loyalty to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is considered questionable.
According to Mohammed, the prevailing economic hardship and insecurity in northern Nigeria have made it politically challenging for aspirants perceived to be aligned with the Tinubu administration to gain widespread support in the region.
She also dismissed suggestions that she single-handedly opposed Khalil’s governorship ambition, insisting that decisions on the party’s candidate would be taken collectively by the consensus committee.
Meanwhile, the ADC inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs in Kano State.
The committee is headed by Umar Bala as caretaker chairman, with Ismail Musa Ibrahim serving as secretary, Lawal Adamu Giginyu as publicity secretary, and Barrister Mohammed Lawal Adamu as legal adviser.
