Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has distributed 3,960 tons of fertilizers to farmers.
Launching the distribution yesterday at the Fertilizer Blending Plant Makurdi Road, Lafia the state capital, Engineer Sule described agriculture as one of the predominate occupation in the state; adding that his administration has taken into cognizance the significance of food production and promised to accord topmost priority to it.
The governor maintained that his administration will create an enabling environment for agriculture as well as admonished investors to key into the state government agricultural policy so as to enhance productivity.
According to him “The fertilizer would be sold to you at a subsidized rate, N3500 per bag. There should be no increment attach to it. Anyone caught inflating the price would be dealt with accordingly. This is to make the commodity affordable for our dear peasant farmers”.
He continued “The committee on fertilizer distribution should ensure equitable distribution to LGCs and Development Areas. I call on all farmers to embrace peace with commercial farmers in the state so that we can have sufficient food production”.
Engr. Sule further assured that the renowned Nasarawa Agricultural
Development Programme (NADP) would soon be reposition in order to
embark on effective extension services to farmers in the state as well
as assured youths in the state for a capacity building where they
would be trained on agriculture with substantial credit facilities to
boost their morale.
In his remark on behalf of the ALGON chairman, the Akwanga Local
Government Council Chairman Hon. Samuel Meishi assured the governor
that the fertilizer will be distributed and sold to farmers equitably.
“Food security is paramount in our everyday activities, I urged you
all farmers to embrace this gesture by our governor. Give him adequate
support to enable his administration succeed”. Meishi maintained.
