Weightlifting President urges lifters to compete clean as Delta win 45kg women category

The President, Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF Dr Ibrahim Abdul has charged the lifters to eschew drug usage and  compete for honour as the weightlifting event begins on Monday at the National Sports Festival, NSF, Delta 2022.

The President who stated this on Sunday, on the eve of weightlifting event noted that the federation has zero tolerance for use of performance-enhancing substance and urged the athletes to compete clean.

“There is no doubt that the atmosphere here (in Asaba) is motivating and the athletes are gearing to go. While both the athletes and officials wait with excitement for the commencement of weightlifting on Monday, as a federation, we have provided all that are need for them to excel.

“But they must compete clean and neat. We have zero tolerance for use of performance-enhancing substances. The athletes should compete for honour and make their states proud”

Meanwhile, Orchid Hotel by DBS Junction, Asaba is the venue as the weightlifting event of the 2022 National Sports Festival, NSF began in Asaba, Delta State on Monday with Delta State winning all the hola medals in 45kg women category

According to the schedules released by the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, NWF on Sunday after their technical meeting, events commenced by 9am on Monday, December 5, 2022 with 45kg women category.

The events began with 45kg women category with the athletes being weighed-in between 7:30 and 8:30am before hostilities begin by 9:30am.

Morufat Folarin  showed class and dominance as she won gold medals in all the three categories in 45kg women category which include snatch, clean & jerk and total.

She won gold with 58kg loft to beat Rivers State’s Christiana Ollorina who got 55kg loft to settle for silver while Blessing Andrew of Kwaa State won bronze with 55kg lift.

In the clean and Jerk section, Morufat Folarin won gold with with 73kg lift followed by Christiana Ollorina who won silver with 65kg lift while Olarinoye Florence from Lagos State won bronze with 64kg lift.

In total, Morufat Folarin went home with the gold medal following a total of 131kg lift. Christiana Ollorina won silver with a combined loft of 120lg while Blessing Andrew won bronze with 117kg lift.

The Weightlifting event which hold at the Multi-purpose Hall of Orchid Hotels, by DBS junction, Asaba will end on Saturday, December 9 with medal presentation. Over 150 athletes are taking part in weightlifting.
