NBA election: NAJUC calls for caution, amicable resolution

The National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, (NAJUC), Abuja, has called for caution and resolution of issues and controversy surrounding the upcoming election of new National Officers for the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.

NAJUC has observed that some Stakeholders in the nation’s Judiciary have been divided over the election scheduled to hold on July 18, 2026.

The association of judicial Reporters noted that while some are of the view that the election should be suspended, others feel there should be no going back on the planned timetable and arrangements for the election.

This is contained in a statement co-signed by the Chairman of the association, Olakunle Olasanmi and the Secretary Alex Enumah in Abuja, Thursday.

Therefore, they called on all parties involved to allow Rule of Law to prevail and avoid whatever that could tear the association apart and put the good name it had earned over the years into disrepute.

The statement reads in part;
“As stakeholders in the Judiciary and media practitioners, who have covered the activities of the Judiciary in the country for many years, the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents, NAJUC, is using this opportunity to call for caution and also call on “warring” factions to harmonize positions and allow rule of law to prevail.

“NAJUC, as an association is calling on parties to come to a roundtable and allow for amicable resolution of whatever issue that is threatening to tear the association apart in the overall interest of the legal profession.

“NBA, as a body has distinguished itself as beacon of hope to Nigerians and has earned the respect of Nigerians, we don’t think this controversy should be allowed to further linger and snowball into something that will get out of hand.

“Over the years, the Judiciary has been, and still remains the advocate of the Rule of Law and there should be no exception to that, when it comes to conducting its own affairs.

“Therefore, we are are calling on all parties involved to allow Rule of Law to prevail and avoid whatever that could tear the association apart and put the good name it had earned over the years into disrepute.

“Finally, we are calling on Legal Icon in the country, Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, and other LEADERS of the Bar and people of GOOD CONSCIENCE to intervene and put this matter to rest once and for all and conduct a FREE, FAIR and CREDIBLE elections to elect the next National Officers that will preside over the affairs of the association for the next two years.”
