NCC allays fears on telecom equipment hazards

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has again allayed fears on any risk to human life as a result of radiation emanating from telecommunication infrastructures like Mast and Towers located in the country.

The Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau. Maryam Bayi stated this at the 67th edition of Consumer Outreach Program held at ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan tagged “The Effect of Telecom Infrastructure on Human Health”.

Bayi, who was represented by Deputy Director, Consumer Affair Bureau, Mr Femi Atoyebi said all telecom equipments copming to the country are being typed-approved by the Commission to ensure compliance with international standard on health and safety.

He said, for services to be provided in all nook and crannies of the country, telecom infrastructures are required and must be in place.

The Commission urged the entire public to allow service providers to site Mast and Towers within their communities adding that research conducted by World Health Organization and other organizations has not yet shown any risk to life as a result of radiation emanating from these infrastructures.

Atoyebi explained that developed countries usually installed these telecom infrastructures on top of high-rise buildings as a way to control their indiscriminate installation within the public or residential areas but its inadequate hinders this option in the country.

He assured that these items cited in cities conform to the guidelines and standards of the Commission concerning all matters on radio frequency.
