The National Drug Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, arrested three suspected cross-border drug traffickers with 48,000 Tramadol 225mg tablets in Mubi, Adamawa.
This is contained in a statement by NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi on Sunday in Abuja.
Babafemi said the suspects were detained while trying to smuggle the drugs into the Republic of Cameroon, adding that the agency also intercepted more than 1,500 kilograms of imported Loud and other illicit substances in raids in Lagos and Edo states.
He said the suspects: Mohammed Hussaini, 32; Adamu Bella, 18, and Mohammed Umar, 18, were arrested at Tsamiya Junction, Madanya Road, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa.
The spokesman said the suspects were arrested on Friday, January 28 with the exhibits hidden in packages of another drug.
“When interviewed, they stated that the drugs were being taken to the town of Bagira along the Nigeria-Cameroon border to be delivered to some Cameroonians for onward shipment to Maroua in Cameroon.
“This comes on the heels of a similar operation in the Alaba Rago area of Lagos, where agents from the agency’s state command intercepted 1,200 imported Loud packages.
“A strong strain of cannabis is suspected to have been smuggled into the state from a neighboring country with a total weight of 1,229 kilograms,” it said.
In another raid on Wednesday January 26, in Suru Alaba, Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA, Lagos, officers arrested 25-year-old Ibrahim Musa with 18,530 tablets of Tramadol, Rohynol, Diazepam, Exol-5 and 138 bottles of Codeine.
Mr. Babafemi said that operatives from Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc, SAHCO, Muhammed International Airport Export Shed, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, during their routine cargo search intercepted a shipment of 22 international passports
The passports, he said, are made up of six different countries hidden in a bag of grain granules (Gari) among other foods at the MMIA, Ikeja Lagos.
“Nine of the passports were three each from the UK, France and Portugal, while the rest Nigeria – 8; Ghana – 4 and Cameroon – 1.
“Also at the airport, agents similarly recovered 12 packages of cannabis weighing 4.95kg concealed in a Golden Morn box packed for export through the SAHCO export shed.
“In Plateau; A team of NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Emeka Ezenwa, 37, and Julius Akingbe, 45, on Friday, January 28, for being in possession of 126.5 grams of methamphetamine concealed inside a DVD player from of Lagos.
“While a raid in the state’s Kampani Zera – Wase LGA on Friday led to the arrest of 20-year-old Fatima Sadiq, who was caught with 21.3kg of cannabis,” it said.
r. Babafemi said that a similar raid on Friday at a notorious drug store, Bakin Kogi in Ringim, Jigawa, led to the recovery of different quantities of Cannabis, Diazepam, Exol-5 and some new psychoactive substances.
He said that the drug was with a total weight of 8,680 kg as well as weapons such as knives, machetes, sticks, catapults and amulets.
