The Management of National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the sudden death of the Registrar/Chief Executive, National Examinations Council (NECO) Prof. Godswill Obioma at the age of 67.
This was contained in a press statement issued yesterday by
Azeez Sani, the Head, Information and Public Relations Division of the Council.
Sani stated that “A Circular issued by the Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Mustapha K. Abdul in Minna on Tuesday, quoted family sources as saying that Prof. Obioma died on 31st May, 2021 after a brief illness.”
According to him, “This is contrary to insinuations in the social media that the late Registrar was assassinated in his residence in Minna”.
Prof. Obioma was born on 12th December, 1953 and hails from Bende Local Government
Area of Abia State and was appointed Registrar of NECO on 14th May, 2020 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Until his appointment as Registrar of NECO, late Prof. Obioma was the Ebonyi State Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He is however, survived by his wife and children.
