Netball is poised for a major revival in Lagos as a bold new grassroots initiative, Netball Rising in Lagos Schools, 2026, prepares to roll out across secondary schools in the state.
The programme, scheduled to launch in 2026, will begin with a pilot phase involving between three and six secondary schools, marking a fresh push to reintroduce the sport into school life and rebuild a strong netball culture from the ground up.
Designed to boost participation, empower young people and strengthen school sports structures, the initiative will focus on creating a fun, inclusive and supportive environment where students can learn, play and grow through netball.
Organisers believe schools remain the most powerful platform for long-term sports development and netball is the next sport ready to thrive there.
At the heart of the project are weekly, school-based training sessions where students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game.
From ball-handling and accurate passing to proper footwork and confident body movement, the programme aims to give participants a solid technical foundation that encourages long-term involvement and performance.
Beyond individual skills, Netball Rising places strong emphasis on team development.
Structured coaching sessions will guide students through skill progression while instilling teamwork, discipline and self-belief.
As teams mature, participating schools will be supported to play friendly matches and compete in a mini inter-school tournament, adding a competitive edge and fostering school pride.
Development will not stop when the school bell rings. Netball camps are planned for school half-term breaks, offering intensive training, match play and team-building activities.
The first camp is scheduled for February 2026, with dates and venues to be announced.
