New Taraba Police HQ will enhance OPS, welfare – Disu

The Nigeria Inspector-General of Police IGP, Olatunji Rilwan Disu has said the new Taraba State Police Command Headquarters will directly enhance security operations and improve officers’ welfare in the state.

Speaking on Wednesday at the commissioning ceremony in Jalingo, the IGP said the state-of-the-art facility will also strengthen police-community relations across Taraba.

Represented by the Taraba State commissioner of police (CP) Morkwap Sebastine Dongshal, Disu called the project a historic milestone, the first permanent command headquarters since the state was created in 1991.

Disu stressed that welfare remains a top priority for the Force, noting that motivated officers are better equipped to deliver professional service.

“The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue. However, it is better late than never. This project stands as a testament to our determination to create an environment that enables officers to discharge their duties effectively.

“The Force will continue to focus on improving working conditions through better office facilities, accommodation, healthcare, training opportunities and other welfare initiatives,” Disu stated.

He described the headquarters as more than a physical structure, added that it symbolizes institutional growth and the Force’s commitment to modern policing.

Disu charged officers to maintain the building and uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights.

He also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, CSOs, the media and the public to support the police with timely, credible intelligence.

“Effective policing requires collaboration. Reliable information remains critical in preventing crime and tackling insecurity,” he said.

Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by Taraba Marshall Commandant, CP Cyril Agbe (Rtd), Agbu said the new HQ aligns with his administration’s vision of strong institutions to address security challenges.

He commended the IGP and Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the project and pledged continued state support for security agencies.

“Security remains the foundation for peace, economic growth, and development. No society can attain its full potential without a secure environment,” Kefas said.

Also speaking, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), Executive Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, said the facility underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These projects demonstrate that when we invest in our security institutions, we are ultimately investing in the wellbeing of our people.

“The new headquarters will serve as a strategic centre for coordinating security operations and improving service delivery across Taraba State,” he noted.
