The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has disclosed that it received over 3,120 submissions from countries including Nigeria, Iran, India, the USA, Spain, and France for the 14th edition of Zuma International Film Festival (ZUFF) slated for 1st to 5th of December, 2024.
This was disclosed in a press statement announcing 2024 ZUFF themed “Digital Renaissance: Embracing the Future”, on Tuesday, in Abuja.
Speaking at a pre-event press conference, the NFC Managing Director/Chief Executive, Dr. Ali Nuhu, also announced actress, Stephanie Okereke Linus as Head of Jury for ZUFF 2024, to work along with other film experts as Jury members, are charged with processing and selecting winning entries.
Nuhu also disclosed that the Vice President, Kashim Shettima is expected to deliver the NFC Annual Film Lecture: themed “Digital EcoSystems: Redefining African Cinema.”
While reaffirming NFC’s commitment to stakeholders, the government, and its global partners, Nuhu thanked FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the Minister of State – FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, for providing an enabling environment for the festival.
He noted that the festival is more than an event as it’s a movement that promotes Nigeria’s cultural and creative economy.
He added that the festival creates jobs, empowers youth, and fosters collaboration across borders.
According to him, this year, we highlight the transformative power of digital technology in filmmaking, with over 3,120 submissions from countries including Nigeria, Iran, India, the USA, Spain, and France.”
He listed the festival highlights to include Zuma Film Festival Light up Night and Opening Ceremony- holding on 1 December, 2024 at Jabi Lake Mall, Artificial Intelligence in filmmaking session, ree film Screenings: across selected venues in Abuja.
He added that there would be film trade & finance forum, emerging talent segment focused on young filmmakers, women in film forum, and Zuma award night to celebrate excellence in filmmaking.
In her goodwill message, FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, noted that this year’s festival promises to spotlight diverse narratives that resonate with “our shared humanity, reminding us of the power of film to challenge perceptions and spark change.”
She called on her colleague, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, to put in place modalities that will sustain and outlive the present administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“ To us in the nation’s capital, this festival is not just a showcase of cinematic creativity; it is a vibrant platform that builds collaboration, inspiration, and cultural exchange.
“In a world increasingly shaped by visual storytelling, your contributions are vital in bridging cultures and igniting conversations”, she stressed.
Not left out, the Director, FCTA Reform Coordination & Service Improvement, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, who was represented at the event, reiterated that the administration’s commitment to the growth of creativity industry, saying it would always provide the enabling environment for the industry to thrive.
She also commended the organisers for Coordination and zeal to drive the film festival.
