NFF electoral appeals committee promises to obey court order

By Albert Akota

Chairman of the reconstituted Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) electoral appeals committee, Okey Ajunwa says they will obey the court injunction that stopped last Saturday’s congress from being held if they’re served with the order.

There has been concerns over the legitimacy of the congress which was held in Warri, since a Federal High Court in Jos had earlier granted an ‘interim injunction’ restraining the NFF ‘from convening or and holding a general assembly or extra ordinary assembly’.

If the order is to be obeyed, then it means the newly inaugurated electoral and appeals committees will cease to exist since they are products of the General Assembly which the Court ordered not to be convened.

But Ajunwa denies any knowledge of the Court injunction.

“I’m not aware of any court injunction, I’ve not seen any paper to that effect,” he said.

“I’m just doing my work, it’s just technical work we are doing.”

Speaking further admits that if the injunction is served properly and if he sees it, they will have no choice but to obey.

“If I see the paper I will look at it. I’m a lawyer of over 20 years at the bar and if I see it, I will look at what it says,” he added.

The Congress announced September 30 as date for the elections, even though the same court injunction has ordered for elections not to be held.
