A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as Jomurota Community Care Initiative, has organised a one-day orientation programme for the community volunteers in Gwagwalada, FCT, Abuja.
In an interview during the orientation programme, the Executive Director of the Organisation, Talatu John Shanwa, said the community workers were trained in order to go to their various communities to fish out those who have tuberculosis.
She called on the government of the day to assist the community volunteers financially so as to arrest the problem of tuberculosis in the society.
Shanwa, however, advised the community workers to carry out their primary assignment with the fear of God, saying that the treatment for tuberculosis is free of charge.
Also speaking, the Programme Manager of the organisation, Hange Solomon, said the orientation was being organised to equip the community volunteers with the needed information.
He said: “The volunteers are made to go from house to house in searching for those who have the problems of tuberculosis in our communities”.
Solomon charged the community volunteers to remain committed to their work for the benefit of humanity.
On her part, a representative of ADHOC officer(s) for the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), Tyavnande Shiana said the leadership of the association would not hesitate to support the community volunteers for their humanitarian services.
However, the orientation programme for the community tuberculosis workers is a Global Fund Project that was being carried out by the Association for Reproductive and Family Health in collaboration with the Government of Nigeria.
