The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said promoting and protecting the rights of Persons with Disabilities remains a critical human rights priority requiring strong legal frameworks and coordinated efforts.

The commission stated this at the maiden Disability Inclusion Working Group convened in collaboration with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) with support from Sightsavers to strengthen disability rights and promote inclusive development in Nigeria.

The meeting was themed “Implementation of the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Other Disability-Related Legislation in Nigeria”.

The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to explore practical approaches to advancing disability inclusion.
