Niger govt constitutes taskforce on street begging ban

A task force to ensure strict compliance of ban on street begging by the Niger State government is to be constituted.
Commissioner of Information and Strategy Alhaji Muhammad Sani idris stated this while addressing newsmen on further details of the ban on street begging in Minna.
Alhaji Muhammad Sani Idris explained that the task force when constituted would ensure total eradication of street begging throughout Niger State.
According to the Commissioner, the state government has already given two weeks grace to beggars in Niger State after the announcement of ban on street begging at the end of their state Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello.
Niger State Commissioner for Information and Strategy maintained that the ban is to sanitise and safeguard the state from becoming a dumping ground for beggars and guarantee total security of lives and properties of its people.
Idris however, maintained that Niger State government is not against the Almajiri system but opposed to all forms of begging at which ever guise.
He stressed the need for those contemplating on begging in the state to have a rethink as anyone caught will be dealt with decisively to serve as deterrent to others.
