No fewer than 50 persons have benefited from the Niger State chapter of Nigeria Legion Widows and Orphans Empowerment Programme with skills acquisition materials and food items to alleviate their plight and to be self reliance.
The State Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Kutigi made the disclosure in an interview at the weekend in 123 quarters Minna after the distribution of the items to the selected persons which have two beneficiaries per local government in the state.
He said that, “the items is to reduce the poverty in the families of our dead compatriots to show them that we did not forget them even though our friends are no more, their spirits are with us”, urging the beneficiaries to used the items for what is meant for to improved their living standard.
Wife of the state Governor, Dr Amina Abubakar Sani Bello who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Women Affairs Hajiya Kaltumi Dauda Rufai in her remarks said that the aim of empowerment programme was to make them independent and to have sustainable means of income hence must not be betrayed.
A beneficiary and woman leader of the legion, Fati Abubakar who lost her husband about 20 years ago said they were living with the grace of God and appreciated the gesture from the legion.
