The Governor of Niger state Dr. Mua’azu Babangida Aliyu has said that plans has been concluded to dissolve and appoint caretaker committees chairmen for the 25 local government councils in the state whose tenure will soon expire.
This was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mr. Israel A. Ebije, which also stated that those who would be appointed must be credible people who are ready to promote the interest and aspirations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He told political appointees at a stakeholders meeting yesterday in Minna that politics is about the delivery of dividends of democracy adding that people who are interested in holding appointments or running for elective offices must be people based.
While expressing satisfaction over the success of the just concluded bye-election, Aliyu insisted that there was need for party members to eschew political rivalry between party members which when added will always affect the fortunes of the PDP at the polls.
“I am pleased with the outcome of the bye-election but we must use the conduct and process as a wake- up call to all political appointees and elected politicians to always be grassroots based and dividends of democracy oriented.
“We need politicians who are interested in giving their all to the people. We must therefore ensure that the grassroots is carried along at all times. We will no longer tolerate politicians who are only seen when there is election” he said.
The governor called on party members in the state to learn from the missed opportunities in the bye-election on account of dysfunctional relationship between members adding that the 2015 general election will be a lot more successful if party members harmonize interests rather that engaging in aimless rivalry.
