Nigeria at 54: Group says bad leaders worse than Ebola

As Nigeria celebrates its 54 years of independence, a youth political pressure group Advocate for Collective Transformation ACT, has said the effect of bad leadership in the country cannot be compared to the ravaging Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

ACT, in its independence anniversary message signed by its National President, Comrade Oluwatayo Fashogbon and National Secretary, Isaac Ifetoluwa Ajayi, said if the veracity of energy is to stop the spread of Ebola in the country should be extended to very sector of governance.

“With the way Ebola was battled out of Nigeria, our leaders should deploy such energy, interest and political will in rebuilding our country.

“Ebola killed about 20 people in Nigeria, but bad leadership, corruption has killed hundreds of thousands since our independence in 1960.”

According to  ACT, Nigerians particularly  youths, are faced with various challenges ranging from acute unemployment, poverty, defective educational standard, lack of social welfare and in most cases total abandonment and systematic exclusion from all the commanding height of governance in the affairs that bother on Nigerian youth interest.

The group said it would commensurate this year’s independence anniversary with a mass peaceful youth rally on October 8, in Yaba area of Lagos state.

ACT said the rally is to sensitive Nigerian youths on peaceful participation in electoral process ahead of the 2015 general election.

The group said youths must be enlightened on using their voting strength to position right leaders in government at all levels in Nigeria.
